What skills and training do I need to be a part of the San Marco Animal Hospital team?

  • Proper and safe animal handling and restraints for cats and dogs
  • Pre- and post-operative preparation
  • Understanding and ability to perform radiology
  • Experience with anesthesia performance and intubation
  • Ability to collect samples, including skin, feces, urine, and blood
  • Place IV catheters
  • Administer blood draws
  • Laboratory skills, including interpretation of collected samples
  • Knowledge of basic pharmacology
  • Knowledge of the veterinary field

We are also looking for individuals who have basic clerical skills, such as the following:

  • Ability to schedule appointments by phone and online
  • Ability to answer the telephone and address client questions
  • Setting up new clients and families for their first evaluation
  • Preparing and maintaining medical records
  • Recognizing medical emergencies and acting accordingly
  • Ability to perform financial transactions
  • Ability to admit and discharge pets for procedures
  • Filling prescription medications for pets

Meet San Marco Animal Hospital

Dr. Venkat Gutta
San Marco Animal Hospital

Dr. Venkat Gutta moved to the US almost two decades ago to further his passion for veterinary science. Having earned a Master’s Degree in Animal Science in Georgia and having completed the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam, he completed clinical rotations at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Gutta then received his license to practice in Florida. For over a decade, he served as an associate veterinarian at the Banfield Pet Hospital. He benefitted from a great amount of exposure and experience, especially in high-quality veterinary medicine and surgeries for soft tissue injuries. To date, Dr. Gutta strives to be approachable to his clients and ensure that they have complete awareness and understanding of the health issues that are faced by their furry friends. His special interests lie in skin issues, behavioral problems, senior pet wellness, nutritional counseling, preventive care, and wellness examinations, particularly relevant to canine and feline medicine. Today Dr. Gutta continues to keep himself updated about modern advances in veterinary science through his memberships in the Jacksonville Veterinary Medical Society and American Veterinary Medical Association.

All the staff is wonderful and Dr. Raj (I hope I’m saying his name correctly) is very knowledgeable and so compassionate to our needs for our little 16 year old chihuahua whose name is chocolate .. our little chocolate was very sickly a few weeks ago , his symptoms were fatigue , syncope, and ascites...we thought he was going to die literally , but Dr. Raj started him on heart medication and etc. now our baby is back to his young self...
